The Umbwe Route is the most direct, steep, and demanding trail on Mount Kilimanjaro. It is designed only for strong, experienced climbers who acclimatise quickly. The trail ascends rapidly through spectacular ridges before joining the Machame route at Barranco Camp. It offers a very quiet lower slope experience with a dramatic, challenging climb.
